I think this is either going to be star wars painted with the cliched Hollywood brush (running from explosions, over-acted drama, cringe-inducing one-liners, etc), or it will be the stuff every one of THIS era's Hollywood big-budget movies aspires to - a masterclass in blockbuster one-upmanship.

What I do NOT think it will be is the tender, light-hearted, endearing, and uninhibited tale that was seemingly only capable of being delivered back in the 70's and 80's. I don't know if it's really significant to this film but I do wonder sometimes if, apart from the iconic star wars world and special effects, that's the elusive detail that made the originals so special.

    • JJ Abrams' Star Trek films prove he's very good at pacing action, story and humour, so i'm hopeful it will be more captivating than the average Hollywood junk.spl33nidoru
    • I agree with spl33nidoru, but still have the same worries as you, SJ.monospaced
    • This being said 70s and 80s audiences were much more naive than today's, it was a cotton candy era for the west, so although endearment is possible...spl33nidoru
    • naivety is probably not.spl33nidoru
    • Cotton Candy era for the west?? The 70's created some of the more gritty and brutal films to this day.ETM
    • In real life, there was the fallout of the vietnam was, crime was rampant in large cities, economic depression, gas crisis etc.ETM
    • *was = warETM
    • Star Wars was a welcome spectacle and distraction... not simply because they were naive.ETM
    • I'm talking about entertainment + youth-oriented programs. The new hollywood you're referring to (?) suffered greatly after Star Wars (Friedkin's Sorcerer).spl33nidoru
    • I agree with you it's because people were looking to escape from their worries in the late 70s.spl33nidoru
    • not sure what else to compare it to , but this needs to be toy story 3_niko
    • I am predicting "JJ lens flares" out the ass!utopian
    • i wonder if they'll hold on a shot for more than 1second.inteliboy
    • Well, no one had ever seen anything like it before. The fact that they hold up at all with those effects is a miracle. They were brilliant but primativejtb26
    • But back then it was advanced and complicated as fuck.jtb26
    • I honestly think his 2 star trek movies already took a dump on what hollywood would have normally done with them.CygnusZero4
    • If they had some shit director, imagine how easy it could be to fuck up star trek, but they were pretty solid. The scripts were very well written.CygnusZero4
    • I predict this will either suck, or it will be good.kona
