    Is it possible that it's because I'm creating the database using the web host cpanel?

    I just registered a new domain, for the purpose of testing this, and did everything again.... SAME PROBLEM. ugh.

    • I feel like this may be the problem, or a problem with the web host. I just tried setting up a local install on my mac via MAMP PRO and had no trouble at all.nb
