If you're fat, is it your fault 90% of the time? Is it just how they eat or is it genetics / metabolism?

    • Because Murica...that's why!utopian
    • I'd would say genetics, and early eating habits?pinkfloyd
    • It's you're fault 90% of the time. People have no idea how many calories they eat / burn each day.section_014
    • i would think it's the opposite. but I'm no doc. I've eaten like a pig all my life (family in the restaurant biz). and I'm way too skinny.Gnash
    • some has to be genetic, my twin brother can't gain a pound even when he triesmonospaced
    • you have a twin mono!bklyndroobeki
    • omaha, when you said "your fault", whatcha implying?

I think that there's no hardline, could be how/what folks eat, genetics OR metabolism.
      bklyndroobeki
    • It's both. The larger factor though is simply calories in and calories out. Unit of energy bro.wagshaft
    • Real question is why there's so much shit food out there, and what WE can do to get rid of it...bklyndroobeki
    • Mostly a result of modern culture, food and lifestyle...if it was genetics you would have obese people throughout history.yuekit
    • "whose fault" is kind of pointless argument. Considering we will all end up paying if society overall doesn't fix it.yuekit
    • yes, I have a fraternal twin brother who eats like shit and is super skinnymonospaced
    • It's 99% I don't give a shit.Maaku
    • Super skinny people who can't gain a pound eat less food than they think they do, by a large margin. The difference between a fast/slow metabolism is small.section_014
    • Relative to height / age / gender, of course.section_014
    • Yes, theres only one disease that really makes you fat, the rest is just your eating habbits and sportsfeel
    • what the disease feel?bklyndroobeki
    • "This is how it is for me, therefore this is how it is for everyone else." - 90% of people.

    • But, you can assume that with the vast majority (nearly everyone) it's just diet & activity. If it were genes, we wouldn't see such rapid growth in obesity.
      ********
    • Nor would we see obesity rates growing only in some regions, likely.

    • But, try to be nice. Most people know they're fat & want to lose weight. They don't need your opinion, and you're not a doctor. Keep it to yourself.

    • some people are on medication, and the side effects make them more hungry than other people..cbass99
    • yes yes I'm on that kind of medication. Always want more cheetos.pango
    • A lot of fat people are nutritionally starving. They don't get the correct vitamins, minerals and nutrients from the shitty food they eat, so their bodies...
      ********
    • crave more and more food. So they stuff their face with more nutritional dead food to satisfy the cravings, and they get fatter and fatter.
      ********
    • Yet the cravings will never be satisfied as it's not really more food they're craving, but the right nutrients.
      ********
    • Eat a properly balanced diet with fresh fruits and vegetables, the cravings stop, they eat less but ultimately more, add some exercise and the weight will go
      ********
    • Not rocket science.
