I highly recommend the arduino forums. Sorry i don't have the links on me, but a quick google should pull them up. their stickies and faq answer a LOT of the beginner questions if you're like i was and are looking to build something specific really fast without learning about random stuff like sensors, led's, etc. (unless, of course that interests you)

I got up and running doing some LCD video drawing/animation using that as one of my primary sources as well as one or two tutorials i found through google.

also, i recommend ebay for finding good deals on arduino boards and shields. esp the shields - they are dirt cheap if you're buying from a seller in china and they'll usually throw in random goodies to get your sale.

    • you should put a disclaimer though,
lot of chinese chips and boards are cheap knock off or even just faked,
buy on ebay/alibababa, but be careful

    • perhaps. their seller feedback usually helps deter these types of issues. just to be clear i bought the shields this way - not the arduino boards :)SteveJobs
