ive had a few friends completely derail their lives with it. a few managed to comeback to normality after extended stints in rehab, others werent so lucky and were last seen homeless..
Heroin and Meth were always something i steered way clear of..
I also gave Cocaine a pretty big miss, not so much for its addictive nature, just it turns people into twats, its crazy expensive and it lasts like 15 minutes.. plus its highly addictive.
