I've burned bridges with small clients I shouldn't have taken on work with, whilst being in full-time work. Did it a handful of times and felt terrible about it, and have learnt my lesson.
Typically consisted of getting one or two rounds into a project, and then having to respond to their (often unreasonable and ill-informed) change requests with a "I'm sorry, I just don't have any more time, I need to give you the files and leave you to it"
And being a sucker, in those handful of cases, I cut my fee by way of apology.
So hang on, thats not really a burnt bridge is it? Slightly charred?
