    Developing anything aside from a basic as fuck "website wrapped in an app" app will require you to learn the Swift programming language, and how to program.

    Phonegap and similar solutions are actually pretty impressive frameworks. But, they're always going to be limited in comparison to creating a native app. Both in functionality and performance. Especially if your app has any type of functionality beyond basic forms, database access, user management, etc. The only advantage over a responsive website with most of these is that they can be installed natively.

    Plus, by developing native, you'll have the added bonus of being able to list ios development as skill.
