It's hilarious to me how upset everyone gets over his public statements.
It's just a formula for coverage. Kanye says something controversial and stupid that most disagree with and twitter lights up and the fucking news talks about it for days. So a bunch more people stream his music or videos or maybe even buy his shit. That makes him a bit of money, but most importantly: people pay attention every time he releases something. This equals sales, and more coverage.
He's past the point of being able to rely on artistic merit, he needs to be a celebrity in every way possible. His records are good, and original (for a mainstream artist). But news media coverage ignores all artists' albums, across the board. They only report public antics, statements and celeb bullshit.
If Kanye sat politely at the awards shows and acted like a gentleman, he'd make a lot less money.
