section_014 - My first trip was January 1996 and I too was a good skateboarder going into it. I picked it up pretty well, but had some tough falls, and was definitely out of shape. I did yearly trips from 1996 to 2001.

Didn't go for 10 years until discovering a group in Chicago that goes to the local places in Illinois and Wisconsin. The last four years I've gone 15 days, 15 days, 13 days, 20 days. In those four years I've done two 3-4 day trips in Colorado and 4 days in Utah.

I can say this about progressing: the more you do it, the better you get at it, no doubt. I am 100x the snowboarder I was in college since I go so regularly. I think better gear helps too - so much quality gear out there these days. I've not had too many hard falls in the past few years. Nothing that really worked me over. I'm very confident on double blacks in big mountains, love steep tree runs and based on the Ski Tracks app, I'm usually able to ride in the 35-50 mph range when a run allows for it. Fastest I've gone was 51mph. Such a great rush.
