I have 24"x36" prints from 35mm film, the D700 and D800, all shot with the same lens. The D800 are the sharpest, of course.
The film prints (same digital printing method, but from scanned film) are the grainiest, and the least detail even though they were scanned at higher resolution than even the D800. The film prints look super cool, even though the detail isn't there.
The D700 prints sit somewhere between 35mm film and the D800, closer to the D800 quality than the film. And you know, I really do like how they look. Obviously, the D800 prints have more detail, but there's something about those D700 prints that I like. They're lower detail, but they look good.
