    Ok, i have an idea. It's a tiny bit of a kludge UX-wise but it might make everyone happy..

    In their user settings members can 'opt in' to a private session which exposes them to any content not deemed appropriate for public consumption.

    Basically, once you've opted in, you can always see and create threads marked as private. This session lasts indefinitely unless you revert your account settings to the default 'Public Only' setting.

    This setting will of course be overlooked by newcomers until they've visited long enough to be 'in the know' at which point they can elect to view and post private content themselves.

    When broadcasting a new thread only those in session will see the option to mark the thread as private, again not exposing this feature to newcomers and needlessly confusing them.

    All private threads are a free-for-all though clear titles which suggest the nature of contained content may still be preferred by some.

View thread
