Before being arrested on New Year's Day, sexual assault suspect William Mattson was badly beaten by the victim's boyfriend, who is his own nephew.
The nephew discovered his 52-year-old uncle on top of his girlfriend and began repeatedly hitting him, driving Mattson away from the family's South Carolina home, a local paper reported.
Mattson has been charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct. His injuries from the beating included a swollen left eye and bleeding on his face and lips.
