Had a friend years ago who worked at an agency designing those credit card offers everyone throws in the trash... very somewhat-scientific-like A/B testing,zipcode segmentation, etc...
... but he did say they were usually just getting you "points" while raising some obscure hidden fee, or cutting one fee while raising another.... kind of like "free checking" accounts that charge you to print checks or use an ATM.... some of this switching around may save some people money if they are VERY careful, but lots of fine print gotcha mindset here...
