The problem we have here in England (/what remains of the UK) is we have a large middle class of Daily Mail readers who are happy to whinge in private yet will never, ever do anything about their grievances publicly.
So we have a slide towards a social situation that none of them wanted, none of them have asked for.. and none of which was questioned when it was foisted upon them by their political and capital masters. This is met with poison and resentment that can only grow into something dangerous and absolutist.
Which is what I think drgs was driving at — either embrace it, or fight it. No use limply complaining about something you choose to exercise no power over.
