I think it's early days yet...
You can definitely see everyone in the gym wearing the sport ones - running 'n checking their watch every 2 minutes. I see plenty of people running up the road with the iPhone strapped to their arm like it's a "must have".
I remember when the first iPod came out and most people around me didn't even notice or know what the first iPod was. Now look a few years down the line... every other person on the undergound has to be plugged in to some kind of mp3 player, white cables, big beats earphones, etc.
Any excuse to separate ourselves from others, even though everyone believes their online being "social".
At first, the price of the original iPod was considered a lot for "just a music player'. But then it spread in popularity. People saw the benefits. Then came the slimmer versions, the shuffles and of course the apps.
So I think it's early days. The first iteration will pave the way to newer, smaller, more bio metric measuring features, more merchandising, more ties, "Oh look I can turn the lights down and the temperature of my fridge", etc and so it goes on. I'm sure there will plenty of integration in the future.
