I'm putting my money on it being more of a personal beacon that is deeply integrated with Health Kit and home automation. The beacon part works in the sense that it notifies the surroundings that you're nearby, hence setting lights/music/preferences and perhaps making other NFC pushes. I don't think this functionality will be only on the wearable either, it's obvious some of this will be on the iPhone too. The wearable part, in my opinion, is all about adding sensors for the health.
