My wife and I are on vacation in Maui. Got here Friday afternoon. Saturday morning I was up pretty early around 5am and we walked down to the beach before sunrise to take some photos.
Had my tripod with me because I was doing long exposures of waves and the ocean. Fun times.
The first person who walked down to the beach where we were had a cheap Canon dslr that I noticed pretty quickly. Not knocking his gear but you can often tell a lot about a person's skills by their gear.
The very first thing that this guy says to me is "tripods are for sissies." In this beautiful place, on this beautiful beach, in Hawaii at 5:45 AM.
I think I said something like "I'm taking long exposures," and then just casually chatted with him. But later I was pissed I didn't confront him about his clearly ignorant and offensive remark. What a shitty thing to say to a total stranger who he had no idea about their skills, gear, photo purpose, or anything. What a dick. I really wish I had challenged him to hand-hold a 5" shot, or just steered quizzing him on technique.
I need to forget about it already because it's really annoying me .
