the internet is a frustrating place. just had a bunch of "vj's" on a forum try and argue that using other vj's clips you find on the internet is totally fine. they argue its the same as a DJ using records.
maybe i am too much of a purist, but using other peoples content is just lazy and reeks of unprofessionalism. if you cant make your own content good enough to get booked for shows, then your shit aint good enough.. and you doing shows just means other people who actually put in the effort have more fucking competition ..
the way i see it is its like having an exhibition in a gallery, but then printing out a bunch of shit you found on the internet.
using the DJ analogy is bullshit.. the general public know when someone is djing or playing live (for the most part.. maybe) but when it comes to visuals no one has a fucking clue.. its more like telling people you are playing live, and then dropping songs from other people in the set..
rant over.
- that said, all the people who i know who VJ professionally of course make all their own content..autoflavour
- so perhaps i am just arguing with the rabble.. but it just disheartening to have people argue that making your own content isnt as importantautoflavour
- isnt as important as "rockin the party"autoflavour
- by whatever means necessary.. the means is to MAKE YOUR OWN CONTENT.. and if its good, then you workautoflavour
- so essentially stealing other people's work?ohhhhhsnap
- not stealing, finding stuff other vj's share for freeautoflavour
- beeple.com etc
autoflavour - look, im easy for people to do whatever they hell they want.. im not saying they should stop.. but the way i see it is you are presentautoflavour
- presenting your visual art in public, and when you are using other peoples content, its just lazyautoflavour
- or wanting to be vj, without having the chops to make it happen otherwise.. but understandably people who do it feel a bit comprimised whene youautoflavour
- dont like people suggesting otherwiseautoflavour
