What worked best for me in the past was a combination of cutting out heavy carbs, fried food and high sugar drinks. Running 5 miles a day, or cycling 15. Then weights after each workout. Bells for chest, then at least 300 crunch situps on a bench. But you have to lose the body fat in general.
