If you are ok with slower read/write speeds and want it to be accessible outside of your local network a Synology is a good bet. The only downside is that you cannot really have your Aperture or iPhoto library running off of it as both those programs utilise the file structure of 'HFS+ Journaled'.
Or if you want a fast read/write and only want it on a local network then a LaCie Big 4 (USB3) or a Drobo Gen 3 (USB3), you can then fill it with any spare drives and run it in any fruity combination of RAID.
Also - consider an option like BackBlaze or Crashplan as well as a HD.
