I was at a wedding in Italy last weekend, when the bride and groom left the church at the end of the [very long] ceremony and walked down the stairs at the front of the church, two bursts of reflective golden confetti exploded in front of me, filling my entire vision with the most amazing visual scene: A million warm golden shards that warped and danced in the Italian sunshine made me almost nauseous with awe.
I was saddened at that point that I wasn't high on some kind of psychoactive.
I watched enthralled as the confetti gradually settled or writhed upwards in warm currents, dissipating slowly, returning the scene to normal.
The confetti was made of plastic. It spread over entire kilometres. The moment barely last a minute; The plastic will last wherever it settles for a thousand years.
We're a stupid species.
