I think the standalone device is a nice touch. If it's successful I imagine they would make an app as well, but this is a good family tool and can probably stand up to some serious abuse (in the hands of kids, in the kitchen, bottom of a bag), and probably won't need a recharge very often.
Living in NYC, ordering groceries online is a normal thing for many people, including myself. I can see this taking off in dense cities.
