    I assume by "defining an experience without predefined boundries" you mean graphics/custom shapes, since that's the one thing Axure and the likes doesn't do.

    And why should it?
    It's wireframing; it's functionality, it's information design. The part where cosmetics, "fun", is not put into visuals yet. And for good reason.

    ...and if you absolutely have to do that it's perfectly fine importing images...

    Personal opinion here of course, but dedicated software is more than fine for doing that (and boy is there more options than just "tap here", btw). In fact I used it exclusivly for a mobile game pretty recently.

    Granted if you're comfortable using illustrator for things then go for it. I, no one, can tell you how to work best or get the job done. But I think you would benefit from looking up those software a little more, since you obviously are working in the field. Check out the advanced tutorials then head on to the specific forums. Check out what people crank out.
    It's not that hard to get up to speed with it, and the payoff is great imho.
