Age and roommate?

I've lived in the same rent controlled apartment in Santa Monica either alone or with a boyfriend over the last 12 years. I'm 31 now. I just got a new roommate for the first time ever in life. My boyfriend's little sister moved in last fall after returning from Japan from school abroad and just stayed which certainly helps with bills, more bandwidth to travel. I'm really loving having her around, I did not grow up with siblings in the house and I don't know anyone who would like watching Korean dramas as much as I do. We have similar styles and are the same size which has been fun and different for me. She got a new puppy when she moved in which feels like 50% my dog with 0% of the financial responsibility which is nice since I travel entirely too much to be responsible for a balanced pet. I'd imagine men and their male roommates would have a different dynamic.
I've never considered a roommate beyond a long term boyfriend until his sister moved in. A pretty rare circumstance I would likely not be cool with if it had been anyone else.
