i'm turning 33 this year.
except for a gf i haven't lived with someone for over 5 years, and i never will again, unless it's a gf...
i do own my apartment (and have for over 7 years). i co-owned with my brother and we lived together for a couple of years, but he moved and i bought him out. that definitely makes a big difference. i don't need to look for cheaper rent, as you mentioned.
