when I enter the wrong side of the internet

Some people literally cannot go vegan. They get their food for free and therefore have to just take what they can get. Some people literally cannot go vegan. They don’t have transportation to get to a grocery store (they live in a food desert) and therefore have to eat what the places near them have.
Outside of that, literally everyone can go vegan. If a person can buy their own food from a grocery store, they can go vegan. So yeah, it does take privilege to be able to go vegan. But not much. It’s an amount of privilege that the vast majority of Americans have. And to appropriate the suffering and circumstances of those less privileged in order to get out of going vegan is bullshit.
It’s like this: men have male privilege and they have a responsibility to use that male privilege to make patriarchal spaces more feminist/womanist/non-man friendly. If they don’t do that, they are choosing the side of the oppressor. They are in the wrong and they should be called out. It would be p much bullshit for them to point to a woman and say “Well not everyone can do this, so why do I have to?” because they have a responsibility to use their privilege to further justice.
Likewise, the humans who have the capacity to buy their own food at the grocery store are privileged over humans who can’t. These privileged humans have a responsibility to use their privilege to further justice: to make human spaces less speciesist. If they don’t do that, they are choosing the side of the oppressor. They are in the wrong and they should be called out. They should not point to the less privileged humans and say “Well they can’t do this, so why do I have to?” because they have a responsibility to use their privilege to help the oppressed.
