Ok... here's the problem with this remake and the problem with almost all young-adult-targeted films that get churned out now... this is the main difference between then and now and why this one just fails out of the gate imo...

ORIGINAL: the original film was dark, dirty and nasty and the characters hadn't had showers for at least a week or two and you could almost smell it through the screen. the violence was more about the tension of the situation; desperation. the main bad guy was ugly as hell and scary. it was unsettling, but awesome.

REMAKE: it's sorta sparkly and everyone just had a shower and has been using proactive because their skin is so perfect and glistens when there's a nice fire nearby. and oh man we better make the violence as predictable and in your face b/c shock value and instant gratification. Everyone outfits themselves at Hot Topic. Also sexy slo mo everywhere bro. And let's apply all those dreamy sunset filters from the O.C. kthx.

    • what's the point of making it the same way twice?scarabin
    • well... i see ur point and yet let's talk about akira...prophetone
    • and i guess the big answer to your query scar would be this: why remake this classic at all?prophetone
    • stay the f*ck away from it! hahaprophetone
    • as i get older my feelings about these movies that moulded my childhood become more protective i guessprophetone
    • and then i start complaining about O.C. sunset filters 'n the modern prettification of films.prophetone
    • i think since i didn't really grow up with the film i'm not as protective of itscarabin
    • look at 'the thing' remake, they extered all that effort for the remake and like missed the point of it altogetherprophetone
    • they missed the point because they were too worried about pretty characters w/ no dimension + CG was bad too bootprophetone
