Yuri, the story goes in this direction :

Peaceful protests started around last november. They were over concern over some human rights violations among other things.

However, the Ukraine govt spent alot of money that they didnt have. So, the EU said ok we'll help you, but here is our terms. The terms were in favor of the EU & NATO obviously, thats how these things go.
Then Russia got wind of this, and told Ukraine 'if you sign this, there will be hell' (in so many words).

What you have here is the Ukraine being used as a middle pawn between sides here. Especially since there has been tension between NATO and Russia for some time. Its sad because there are really people in the Ukraine that are fighting for a cause, but they are caught here. Unlike here in the US, in most other countries, when people are fed up, they protest, riot, and generally come together against the powers that be, and not just sit on a couch watching it.

Im sure you've also heard about the cryptic text messages that Ukraine protestors were getting saying "Hi, we see you are involved in a mass disturbance."
This was sent out via their govt (and im sure plenty of spying agencies). Which raises concerns over how they are allowed to do this and the extent they are willing to go to surpress/scare people.

Both sides (EU/Washington & Russia) have an agenda here. Ukraine is caught in the middle of this. Damned if you do, damned if you dont.
