All of the gifs I posted were made specifically to post on qbn over the past couple years. I dug them out from my imgur account.
My process:
Step 1: Create a scene in c4d sized at 450x450 (or whatever you want)
Step 2: Create animation
Step 3: From c4d, render the animation as a tif image sequence into a folder of your choosing
Step 4: In PS, File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack (select Folder from drop down) Select your image sequence folder
Step 5: Open the Animation panel. Window > Animation
Step 6: From the Animation panel, select Make Frames From Layers (top right of window)
Step 7: Again from the Animation panel menu, select Reverse Frames (to put your animation in the correct order)
Step 8: Select all frames and set frame delay (I use a delay of .14)
Step 9: Set loop to forever (my default is forever, so I don't have to set this)
Step 10: File > Save for Web and Devices
Step 11: Select gif from the dropdown below the Preset dropdown.
Step 12: (The tricky part) Begin deleting colors from the palette you feel are redundant until you reach your target file size / quality threshold. (This will likely take a few trial and error attempts to get you where you're happy)
Step 13: Save
Step 14: Upload
Step 15: ?
Step 16: Profit
