contax is a solid system for cheap(ish), my buddy had one for quite some time. but if you're looking for a solid rangefinder, really just upgrade yourself to a leica. i have an m6 but the r series is great as well, even though they are a bit heavy. my aforementioned friend sold his contax setup to get into the leica m game after having an r 4.2.
i mean when it comes down to it, the photos i get from an m6 are better than any / all i ever got from my canon mark 2 digital.
the contax is a great camera, it's just one of those things where a couple extra bucks can go a long way when you consider long term investments like lenses.
