Maybe I'm in the wrong on this, but I know if a 4K/8K television is necessary.
Blu-ray, and broadcast both put out 1080p and 1080i, but nothing (as far as I am aware of) will put out a 4K bandwidth. From what I understand, that is currently impossible, and way too much information to pass through cable lines.
I've always been under the impression that this is all marketing bullshit.
Furthermore, no one really shoots 8K. There's digital IMAX, or perhaps a film IMAX scan, omniscans, etc.
