If you have an external, USB-powered, disc drive and it doesn't seem to have enough energy to eject the disc, it might not be broken. I was about to return such a device and it turned out all I had to do was reset the power distribution on my computer (basically, unplug it and reset the SMC), so that it reallocated enough power to the USB port to eject the drive. Apparently this is common and results in a lot of unnecessarily-returned devices.
- how do you reset SMC?pango
- for my Mac it was as simple as shutting down, pulling the power cord, waiting awhile, and then plugging back inmonospaced
