using tumblr pics

thanks for the input, i think my original post was rushed and inarticulate and it does sound a bit sneaky which wasn't my intention.
As far as images being "fair game", I was asking about Tumblr specifically because it functions differently than google image search and flickr.
On Tumblr some people are making money with their sites by doing nothing more than reposting images from other people's tumblrs. In this case, they are profiting by using images that were not created by themselves and doing nothing more that giving credit or linking back to the creator's tumblr (if that).
So my question is, if i did the same thing, used a tumblr image for a commercial site, blog etc and gave credit to the creator and linked the image back to the original tumblr site, would it be essentially the same thing?
It seems to me that if you are profiting or using an image commercially you should pay or ask permission from the creator to use it, but this isn't how tumblr works is it?
