Is your shoe box idea patentable? you have proof of concept, that they approached you for your idea? and are you work for hire???
Basically if you are work for hire, and they can prove as such then yeah. it more difficult. IF not and its patentable concept, you should have a patent on it by now. then they have to buy it off you.
Ideas are not considered intellectual property unless you have an agreement or contract that is specific clause about it.
If you had an idea and told someone they can run with it basically.
What works against cases like this is if you pursue a law suit is, they settle out of court to avoid the expense of a suit.
or
I think if there is proof in way that they are trying screw you where you were employed and you had an idea and instead of paying for you they fire you in order to capitalize on your labor without paying for it is a more realistic case.
you should run to patent it if its that good before they do.
