Anonymous lame man in story "Hey, Jesus - you healed me with just what appeared to be just magic, because you know - you are God in human form, all powerful, all knowing, all loving - the creator and father of the universe, source of all goodness and wisdom. From which all came and to which all will return, beginning and end. Why not just cure ALL lameness, right now, this minute. For if you cannot, you are not the all-powerful one you claim to be. If you will not then you aren't the all-loving one that the God we have had revealed to us."
Jesus looked thoughtful for a moment and stood up.
"No - it is more mysterious than that - you wouldn't understand", he said. "I have given man freewill - freewill to help one another and love one another as you have been made in my Father's (and mine) image - yours is the choice to love one another and heal lameness."
And bystanders were mightily impressed with this, and did applause a little, for it sounded wise on the surface of it, and Jesus held his hand to them, like - yes, yes, thank you.
"Oh come on" sayeth the now fit and well man, "That's not always the case is it ? Not all suffering is due to other people just not caring enough - what a about kids with uncurable cancer, or all those people getting buried in Pompeii in a few years' time ? They're just getting fucked over by where they live. Rockfalls, avalanches, floods, diseases and so on ?"
But Jesus just wandered off, leaving everyone to try and shoehorn their primitive philosophies together, and getting out their old books on Epicurus and that thing he'd said only a few years earlier.
Jesus was a nice, smart guy, they all agreed, and his philosophies on getting along with each other were quite refreshing although not entirely new, they thought.- Scary accurate.monospaced
