in the 90's, I worked at a tech startup where there were all these big ego baby boomer execs who wanted to make $$ off this internet thing, but hadn't a clue... we techies agreed to say "gif" on the odd days of the month and "jif" on the even days of the month just for fun and solidarity...
... the startup went belly up before the execs figured out the gif vs jif thing.... but they were very confused and not willing to ask, as it would make them look.. uh.. confused... which they were trying to avoid looking clueless....
