One of the subjects of my doc is a blind photographer. Some art museums in Europe (maybe in US too) have programs where they take the blind on a guided tour. Because the blind obviously can't see the work it needs to be described to them - you get 2 describers who keep each other in check so that the description doesn't end up too personal.

When we filmed we "saw" 2 paintings:
    Picasso's "Harlequin"

    And Klein's "Blue":

Both descriptions took about 30-45 min. Yes, 45min to describe a blue square.

At the end, the blind photographer said how much more rewarding the "Blue" painting was because of the necessary poetry required to really describe it.

We live in times of appearances (falseness of first impressions) and yet don't take the time to really think through what we are looking at. If you think you are just looking at large blue canvas with a stripe you might be missing out on something.

BTW, here is more about the doc:

    • Did Klein see that much in the art, or is it museum BS? That's the question.fredddddd
    • museum "BS" last 45min. Klein devoted 34 years of his life to it.pr2
