My personal opinion is that aliens are not time travellers but a super advanced race of dinosaur that became advanced and technological millions of years ago, destroyed most of life on Earth then re-terraformed it and eventually created a hybrid species from mammals and themselves to create us. Would explain the reptilian master race currently controlling the world's governments.
Possibly actual extra-terrestrials enter into this scenario somewhere along the line.
