Not sure how they "abandoned" Flash. It was working just fine and was 99% of our websites. Granted, they were slow on the mobile adaptation/optimization, but for everything else it was far superior to anything we've seen since then.
We'll never use Flash either, but we'll also never create the level of polish that we did with Flash. From a designer's point of view (and perfectionist), I find that unfortunate.
So the web continues on with an overdose of mediocrity and WordPress themes. That's fine, just sad that the level of design will, most likely, not be the same anytime soon (if ever).
iOS had supported Flash it'd be alive. Flourishing, how knows, but it wouldn't be dead even if it hadn't changed since then.
