I think people are mad at him in particular since he could have used the opportunity to voice the issue and raise awareness. Rather than soapboxing the bad conditions vfx workers are going thru to help him and others get high accolades, Ang remained silent while the winning vfx sups get their mics cut.
At least Robert Downey Jr attempted to stand up for the artists who depicted Iron Man for a majority of the screen time before Sam Jackson shut him down
