some years ago my brother and I collaborated on a New Yorker cover which morphed Monica Lewinsky's face from an AP photograph into/onto the Mona Lisa- because of the tight deadline, we never got a real transparency of the Mona Lisa-- just scanned it out of an art book. Somehow the cracks in the painting disguised the artifacts of scanning an already printed image.
