I enjoyed it thoroughly. No matter how silly it was, I always wanted more. Ending sucked, I think because they wanted to go against most popular theories.
It alluded to an out-of-map island myth that goes back through literature — John Fowles' "The Magus", Verne's "The Mysterious Island", Shakespeare's "The Tempest"...
The Tempest had its Prospero, Miranda, Ariel, Caliban — you can easily draw parallels from the show, it's quite fascinating.
I am not saying they were shaping the show after any of the books, only that they touched a topic people were always ready to get excited about.
It was written more or less on the fly, the more impressive it's how it pretty much held together for so long.
