    ....and let's continue with that thought...if we focus on those that own guns and want to own guns, then we'll have a billion people shouting "he's not stable!" and other crap, much of it probably reasonable to investigate (road rage? Bar fights? High school fight? Violent football players?? Bullied as a kid????). I sure don't want anyone that could possibly be uneven owning a gun (which is 99% of society), if we are going to focus on the "mental health".

    The fact is you can't know. Not unless someone truly exhibited clinical problems, was institutionalized, etc., otherwise it is just speculation and random opinions (which, again, any of those in my list above would be targets for "instability" and "anger issues" or "suppressed anger", etc.). And if you were 'treated' at some point you can't buy a gun anyway.

    In this case, he didn't buy the guns, so nothing but eliminating the guns from the equation could have prevented it (which includes locking/disassembling, etc.).
