I was at this mall 24 hours to the minute before the shooting so this hit close to home.
Clackamas Mall is on the outskirts of town heading towards Mt Hood National Forrest. Past the mall is pretty rural and the times I've been there I've seen plenty of people wearing their best Carhart and Camouflaged hunting gear. To put it lightly lots of gun owners/hunters shop there so I doubt he was the only one packing heat that day.
I'm the first to admit I wish this guy was able to unload his clip into the sicko on a rampage killing him and save the day and be a hero but by his own admission he said he couldn't get a clear shot so he took cover and hid like everyone else. Thank god he was trained enough to know that having a shoot out against a heavily armed psychopath in a crowded mall wasn't the right decision. The only thing that saved more lives was the gun jamming and or running out of ammo so he could't kill as many people before turning the gun on himself like every other mass murder does.
So he wasn't a hero just an innocent bystander and/or victim... Not everyone with a concealed weapons permit is Jason Bourne or John McClane.
