I'm not sure about the US, but in Canada, awareness (and more importantly acceptance) is steadily increasing. There are still tonnes of stigma attached to mental health issues, but it's become so prevalent – so many kids with Autism, so many people with soul-deadening depression to name two – that it can't be ignored or isolated anymore.
