@formed, here is the primary problem. You simply CANT reduce the amount of guns.
During prohibition they thought it would be more difficult to obtain liquor, when in fact it actually became a huge business and many people became very rich over it, and it was never that hard to get it.
Put a ban on guns and no you wont be able to buy a handgun and register it legally, but that wont stop anyone from being able to buy them because the import business would boom. There is no such thing as eliminating anything. It cant be done and has never worked. There is all kinds of bans all around the world, but people still get their hands on drugs and guns.
The real problem is crazy people, which cant be fixed either, so the real focus needs to be on security. Schools needs to be fortresses, but they arent right now. There is no stopping a crazy kid from getting his hands on things to kill many people, that will never be fixed by any law, but if you can keep him away from the people he's targeting, that's the solution. He was able to get into that school and that shouldnt have been as easy as it apparently was.
