It's funny the attention these things get because it happens in the most powerful country in the world. Take a trip over to China where mass murders by people as young as 12 happen on a fairly regular basis, but are not covered by the mass media for various reasons.
How about the car bombings that happen every day in the middle east. Sure, lets just ban cars in those countries. Well what happens when you do that? People find other ways. That's the whole issue here and is right when ignorance rears its ugly head.
This kid was lost, desperate, dedicated and angry and snapped. Do you really believe a gun ban would have stopped him? Please. 2 alternative options would have happened. He would have obtained guns illegally, which can happen in every place on Earth, or he would have built a bomb. He wanted to kill people. No laws would stop him from doing that.
Basically what you realize is people are stupid. Oh hey a crazy kid shot up a school. Lets just slap a law on the items he used to do it. Yeah that will stop him and he'll just forget about what he wanted to do and go play some videogames and remain a normal citizen. Derp.
The problem here is PEOPLE. Crazy people have done whatever the fuck they wanted to for as long as humans existed and will continue to do so for the rest of humanities existence. That's how it is and how it will be.
