I hate guns. A gun killed my father-in-law in a robbery of his store. Shot in the back of the fucking head. I think guns are horrible fucking things.
But, yeah, I do think the horse has left the barn as far as handgun control goes in the US. There are already too many guns out there, and too many people insane about having them.
I think the only thing that has any hope of stopping violence in the US is some sort of educational program for it.
We teach people math; we teach them how to use computers; we teach them to read and write and drive.
Why can't we teach people to be less violent? Teach people methods of settling differences without violence. Teach people how to protect their family and home without a gun.
Even if it only reduced violence by, say, 10%, that would save thousands of lives each year.
And if we celebrated non-violence, like we do Fourth of July, or Labor Day, with a big parade, and people getting medals, that might reduce violence another few percent, too.
For too long people have gone around in circles on the gun control issue here in the US. While that endless argument is going on, we need to look into other methods of curbing violence in our country.
- Tell that to the nice man in middle America that provides fresh venison to his family.CygnusZero4
- Massacre here is CO was by a PhD student...far more educated than anyone on hereformed
- Again, hunting with a long gun, is not the same as owning semi-automatic weapons.ETM
- Stop using such a pointless argument as "I like to hunt." No one is saying you can't hunt.ETM
- Mots gun control people are not asking for that either. And it's 'gun control' not all gun ban.ETM
- And if you have a semi-automatic long gun, are magazines not restricted to 3-5 rounds?ETM
