“Rumors are he used to bum young sri lankan lads with Arthur C Clarke”. Maybe yes, maybe not - we'll never know for sure. Mindlessly regurgitating rumour's hardly high-minded enterprise though, is it?
That flavour of rumour's a favoured gas of the mindless chattering classes, the ones too vapid and bitter to appreciate that people who have strived in life and made something for themselves can move abroad to some weird corner not because they have something to hide, but because they're worldy and curious enough to step outside their familiarity zone.
We can be an incredibly bitter little race of people sometimes, we Brits, featuring a particularly unsavoury disregard for people who've made an effort for themselves.
Hence why our country has lolled around in the doldrums feeling sorry for itself these past few decades.
