If your self sufficient its not big deal. You can trade. it has nothing to do with political stereo typing. its just smart common sense. This isnt the only empire that ever collapsed.
Just look at a city like ny. Its basically a machine. eat individual has role in its gears for services. its complex. It like an organism. supplies, production, service are divided so if something happens that disrupts food, transportation or power. the city is useless. people get desperate. I seen people get nasty passing by a gas station before they put cops on watch because of shortage fears. were they teabagers? they had a survival instinct. so imagine this in nyc with a real survival situation. everyone turns to a teabagger?
If you have land. you have production control of the basics at least. if you stock up you can survive through times of shortages if it happens. Nothing political. just common sense.
The difference is weather you wait in line for hand outs and how long you wait or if you have a sense of control with what you stocked up. What do you prefer?
Waiting for a hand out with your family in huge line or having the fruits of your labor ready without going through the whole line shortage drama?
